Shelby Johnson, independent wine consultant, is coming on Monday night with another great wine to share. This lady is so much fun. She'll come do a wine tasting your home and even bring the wine. It's actually a great party idea for a small group of friends who enjoy drinking wine (and learning about it too!).
Financial consultant Martina Mason (Dragonfly Financial Services for Women)is ready to tell us how we protect ourselves from spending too much money on Black Friday. Hide the charge cards! Set a budget! This is a tough year for most people and it will only get worse if we break into our savings to buy stuff we really don't need. It's okay to shop, just don't go crazy.
Dr. Jocelyn Leveque (Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery) and Deborah Ward (owner of Cuttin' Loose Salon), continue the discussion about my "make-over". Dr. Leveque will tell us about the new "Mini-Lift". It's a new procedure that can be done in her office. Don't you just love modern medical miracles that help us defy gravity and keep us looking fresh and wrinkle free!
On Nov 30th, Deborah plans to get started on my hair with a deep conditioning Keratin treatment. This will take the fuzz out of my hair and leave it healthier. My husband is starting to get worried. Change can be scary, but you have to overcome the fear to make positive changes.
Also, YaddaYadda can now be seen on Brighthouse Channel 2 in Beulah, Cantonment, Flomaton and Century. Watch Live at 9pm or On-Demand at www.blabtv.com.
Yadda Yadda Monday Night! November 16th
Ida, that problematic tropical storm that basically shut down Pensacola for 2 days last week, has now wandered up the East Coast and we get to start this week off with fabulous Florida Fall weather and a Live Yadda Yadda show.
We may have some changes for the show, but as I'm writing tonight, we've got quite a line-up. Shelby Johnson, Independent wine consultant, and Kathleen Turner look-a-like (ala Jewel of the Nile) is back from her fabulous trip to Jamaica and probably has a great tan too! She is so much fun, you have to have her come do a wine tasting at your home... she'll even bring the wine!
The lovely Martina Mason, Dragonfly Financial Services for Women, is going to remind us not to break into our savings during the holidays. Best to hear this BEFORE BLACK FRIDAY! We need a mantra, a safe word, a buddy system!
Deborah Ward and Dr. Jocelyn Leveque will talk about new ways we can all revive and retain our youthful appearances (PLEASE!). I have had so many people tell me that they are really interested in getting a "new look" themselves but just don't know where to start. Watch tonight, we've got the pro's on our side.
Finally, Parasine Yelder, Pete Gallas, Holly Kerr from Families First Network are coming on Yadda to talk about the Service Resource Fair to be held on November 20th.
Find out more tonight.

Forget the Hurricane! Got a Great Show Planned
Monday night's show has a full line-up of fabulous women. We'll be talking about wine, hair, our finances and our faces!
This afternoon I stopped by Lee Tracy at Portifino Boardwalk and Diane picked out something really cool for me to wear for the show. Razzleberry top, chicy-chicy scarf and purple suede bootlets with 3 inch heels.
Shelby Johnson - independent wine consultant, is in transit to Sea Salt (a fabulous private residence- for hire) in Jamaica. She and five other friends will be hanging out at the private pool, drinking wonderful wines and enjoying the culinary delights of the person chef. Before she left for her adventure, she made sure I had a bottle of wine for the show.
Deborah Ward- owner of Cuttin'Loose is going to be on again to continue our conversation about changing my look. We may have to bring out the nanotechnology and other reinforcements.
Martina Mason - Dragonfly Financial Services for Women, continues to educate and inform us about how we can take charge of our finances and our future.
Dr. Jocelyn Leveque - Gulf Coast Plastic Surgery, will tell us about the new Mini-facelift that can be done in-office! This will be very good information for all of us who don't mind getting older, we just don't want to look OLD.

Halloween, Scary Stuff and Yadda Yadda
It was a little hard to get into the spirit of Halloween this year. I real life has been scary enough this year thank you very much.
As I get older (and maybe a little wiser) I have a hard time visualizing myself pulling of the "sexy vampire", "sexy pirate" or even the "sexy nurse, school teacher, police officer, convict, etc." I can't tell you how many costumes I looked at and thought "hmmm, what would my Mom have worn when she was 50?" I gotta tell you, she wouldn't have been caught dead in a "sexy zombie" costume. So this year, I donned a Hazmat suit. Actually, my husband and I both wore the white zippered suits with booties and blue gloves. (I accessorized with pearls of course.) It was quite liberating knowing that that nothing was gonna pop out of my costume unexpectedly and scare someone. I was comfortable from head to toe and may have to revive the costume for next year as well.
Tonight on Yadda Yadda: Shelby Johnson, Independent Wine Consultant joins me on the couch and we talk all about Wine and the fun wine tastings she can host in your home.
Tonight she will be bringing an Italian Chianti "LaVigna Mobile" (it's pronounced MO-BE-LAY, not Mobile, as in Alabama). Shelby is a very interesting woman, she was born in Bermuda and her father was a professional racing sailor for the great island.
She went to boarding school as a child and then raced yachts herself. (How cool is that?!)
My next guest for tonight is Deborah Ward Sharp (owner of Cuttin' Loose Hair Salon.) We have know each other for many years and have shared many happy and stressful times. As wild single women, I think we actually invented the term "Cougar". But now we're both happily married and we're going to talk about taking control of our lives by changing our hair and the pitfalls of wearing blue eyeshadow.
Finally, Holly Shelton, jazz voicetress marveloso (spell-check be darned!) lets us all know when and where we can enjoy hearing her fabulous voice at the Great Gulf Coast Arts Festival this coming weekend.
It will be a great show, so tune in LIVE at 9pm or catch it on-demand at www.blabtv.com.

YaddaYadda Monday Night, Oct. 26th.
It's Sunday afternoon, almost time to cook dinner and the house is a swirl of dogs, laundry, televisions, and teenagers...(OMG, am I cooking dinner tonight???)
Anyway, tensions aside, Monday night's show will have great guests, wine, and things to talk about. Dr. Michael Brant DeMaria, I should now call him the "Acclaimed Dr. Michael Brant DeMaria, will be on to tell us how it feels to have won a Native American Grammy Award ... (and he's not even a Native American!.... how cool is that!).
Martina Mason of DragonFly Financial Services will also be on and what I want to ask her is how and when do we educate our daughters about planning for their financial futures?
Personally, my parents thought that going to college was enough. They were of the generation that figured social security would last forever and that I'd probably marry someone who would handle the rest of our retirement needs. I guess that would have been fine if it in any way resembled reality, but as it is... I'll be working until I simply drop dead from exhaustion. I don't want that for my daughter. I don't want her to count on marriage or even just an education to ensure her financial security. She, like every young woman out there needs to take charge and accept responsibility to avoid becoming a bag lady.
Then it's time for the "Latino Festival"! Rose Resendez McCafferty invites us to join our Latin Community on October 31st for a day of music, dancing, food and other festival activities. For details check out www.LaCostaLatina.com. The festival is free and starts at 10am (runs to 6pm).
I had lunch with Rose a few weeks ago and was amazed at the diversity of the local Latino community. Our Latin American community comes from Mexico (North America); Central America; and South America...(That's a lot of Americas!)
On another note, Rose is herself an amazing woman. She was tragically widowed at a young age with two very small boys to raise. Her education had been limited and she had to find the personal strength to move forward. Her boys are now approaching college age and are good students. Even though Rose is a single mom, she finished college is an inspiration to all. Now she is the owner and publisher of the only newspaper servicing our the Latin American community across the Gulf Coast.
Okay, time to open a bottle of wine and figure out what's for dinner.
If you missed last week's show, catch it On-Demand at www.blabtv.com.

YaddaYadda Monday Night
Good Grief! Where has the weekend gone? One minute it's here, then the next - it's over. Here I am watching some really obnoxious cartoon called "The Cleavland Show". I know that this absurd cartoons are successful because of their vulgarity and gross humor... which I find terribly distastful. So, why am I watching this?
Actually, I am not in control of the remote. It has been in the possession of the alpha male for the past few hours.. nuff said.

Can this woman retire? Maybe she should move to Mississippi and change her name to Blanche DuBois ?
Tonight on Yadda, financial planner Martina Mason (Dragonfly Financial Services) shares a question she received from her website and gives us some answers. "I am a 53 year old single woman earning $45,000 a year.My retirement savings has been devastated by the market and is down to $78,000.I wanted to retire at 60. What can I do?"
OMG! We all know this woman. Some of us ARE this woman! Women don't know how to effectively plan for retirement. We have been BUSY! and suddenly we realize that we don't have 40 more years of work left in us... but can we retire? Without becoming a bag lady? Blanche DuBoise? Or mooching off our children? It's a tough world out there and we've got to learn how to make some of these decisions ourselves. Watch tonight and see if it's even possible!
Also, Jeff Glickman, local Blues artist and former New Yorker comes on to share some of his talent and to tell us about the 17th Annual Mississippi Delta Tennessee Williams Festival. This is a great road trip to the Old South to enjoy Broadway stars, regional artists, scholars and fledgling actors from high schools across Mississippi. Oct. 16-17, Clarksdale Mississippi Coordinates: South of Memphis, East of Little Rock, North of Jackson and West of Birmingham.
(Can't get more Southern than that!)
I pulled the following from an article in the Clarksdale Press Register: "Linking a sense of place to the celebration are porch plays in the historic district where “Tom” Williams spent his childhood, a posh Friday night reception in recently renovated Clark House, historic home of Blanche Clark Cutrer; an organ recital at St. George’s Episcopal Church where the playwright’s grandfather served as rector for 16 years; and Saturday’s coffee and dessert at the Cutrer Mansion, “Belle Reve” from “A Streetcar Named Desire." www.pressregister.com
Watch tonight! Should be fun!

October 1 - Birthday Fever!
Today is the birthday of 3 people who count in my life. The first is my best friend Steve S.
I called him to wish him a happy birthday and he said that he was having a pretty good day (now that I had called it was even better). Both of his 20 something kids had called with their birthday wishes ... wow, they are finally growing up.
It's really a grown-up behavior to call your parent and wish them well on their birthday.... and not ask for money too! When they're younger, someone has to guilt them to call, later they need to be reminded, and finally they get it all on their own.
He's been living up in Memphis for some years now with his lovely Maria. I miss him dearly, but I'm happy he has built a good life up there. Our conversation rambled, he said that he even got a Happy Birthday e-mail from his Ex. I jokingly told him that she still wants him; he responded that it's only because she's seen him naked. (LOL!)
The next person is TG. I work with him and have the greatest respect for his intelligence; but I respect him even more for his devotion to his wife. A few people from the office met at the new Oriental buffet for his birthday lunch. It was a fun break ending up with all of us singing crazy songs and quoting kooky sketches from what we collective considered classic TV shows.
"I searched the world over, and I thought I'd found true love, but you found another and (insert raspberry here) you was gone" -(HeeHaw)
The third person is B. B turned double nickels today. To celebrate she invited her bevy of girlfriends to the house for champagne and then we all headed down to 600 South for Little Black Dress night. Nancy Pants and Jeff picked us up at the Yeller house and we made the trek over the bridge to Gulf Breeze.
B greeted us donning a fabulous little black dress (Audrey Hepburn-esque) bejeweled with a sparkling tiara... it was sooo Breakfast at Tiffany's - except Audrey Hepburn's footwear could never hold a candle to B's sparkelishous shoes. Tom (her husband) was the consummate host (was that really an earring he was wearing?).
As the guests flowed in the house, the chatter and laughter resounded through their home.
People were having fun.
Other highlights from the evening: DDunlap pulling my hair (not recommended); Tapas at 600 South (highly recommended).

Tonight's Show 9-28-09
October is "Breast Cancer Awareness Month". One of my not-so-politically-correct co-workers from my banking days used to refer to it as "Breast Awareness Month". Guess it's easy to tell that my former co-worker was male. But maybe he had a good idea, maybe we should focus on having healthy and happy breasts.
Anyway, to the best of my knowledge, non of my guest tonight have had breast cancer.
Tonight, Larry and Shelly Bevis talk about their new book Couple's Answers to Cancer. Larry had suffered from brain cancer and the book provides a unique look inside how he and his wife coped with the diagnoses and treatment. His oncologist Dr. Frank Andrews (my oncologist back in 2000) is also a guest tonight and finally, Michael DeMaria (last few days to VOTE! for his NAMMY). www.votenative.com #30 (Native Heart... Category).
Wine from the Aragon Wine Market and maybe some yummy toffee from "Nuts over Toffee"!
Watch tonight 9pm on the tube or on the web.

Thursday Afternoon
Rain rain go away come again some other day. I even called a meteorologist in Miami to ask him when the rain would stop. This is what?... "El Ninio?" "La Nino"?, "La Pinto", "La Santa Maria?".
I am beginning to think that a boat may be in order.
My determination to go to the Groundbreaking for the Maritime Park, will not be deterred by rain. At lunch today, I invested in a pair of rubber rain boots as a precautionary measure should I be faced with a fashion emergency. They are actually a little silly looking, but they will definitely keep my feet above water.

Wednesday Night
I won't be writing publicly about Sam or the boys. I really didn't realize that so many people were reading my blog. I knew my husband did, and maybe a few other people; but I never considered it more than just my way of clearing my head.
I will still be writing, though. It's just something that I do, especially when I have things I need to work out or just need to "talk' about. And when the time is appropriate, I'll include updates on Sam.

Thank you.
I thank so many of you for your kind thoughts and prayers for Sam. And the information many of you have shared has helped as we try and figure out exactly what happened so early Labor Day morning.
This afternoon, I got a really vile message, from an obviously disturbed individual through my Facebook page. His words were foul and full of anger. I guess if you put yourself out there, you really have to expect that eventually a crazy person will think all his problems will go away if he can hurt you. It made me wonder if his Mom ever washed his mouth out with soap or if he beats his wife. Scary stuff out there, and scary people too.

Thursday Morning. Dear TC,
Dear TC,
I'm sorry that I didn't have an opportunity to meet you. From everything I 've heard about you, you were a good son and a friend to many. I've read about your passion for skating and also for running. Both are great activities for young boys with lots of energy. You had much to look forward to... by many accounts, a bright future.
I don't know why you, Cody and Sam were out with James so early in the morning. The timeline is starting to come together for the sequence of events, but that still does not explain "why" you boys were placing yourselves in this obviously dangerous situation. Even when we find out "why", will it be your reason or just another supposition made by others on your behalf? Does "why" need an answer or should we just accept how the events unfolded, accept the results and try to find peace within?
I know these are tough questions for someone so young.
Did you know that your friends held a special memorial for you under the trestle? I was with Sam at the time, so I didn't hear about it until the next day. It's so important that your friends and family know that you are okay. You may not be here, but wherever you are, there are many who will miss you.
Also, Jim and I went by Cody's house last night and shared some time with his grand dad. We thought we had Cody's backpack and were returning it along with his skateboard. As it turns out, it's your backpack.
Still filled with boy clothes and boy things. Things you touched, wore and held so recently. Khaki's still laundry fresh and folded (probably by your Mother).
This afternoon is the visitation service for you. You probably won't recognize me, but I will be there. I don't know what is appropriate to say to your family. This event has lead us down a common road with quite different destinations. I do not know how they feel, or what they are going through. But if there is anything that I can do, that will in anyway help them through this, I will do my best.
Please be okay TC.
My heart goes out to your family,
Cynthia Scheltema

This event has lead us down a common road with quite different destinations. I do not know how they feel, or what they are going through. But if there is anything that I can do, that will in anyway help them through this, I will do my best.
Please be okay TC.
My heart goes out to your family,
Cynthia Scheltema
